SOMETIMES WELL MEANING PEOPLE CAN DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD
A kind donor ordered a very expensive playground and it was installed at St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital in Lviv.
One of the elements was a Wheelchair Swing.
It hung without movement and usage.
We looked at it and it looked good.
We decided to try it.
That’s when the trouble began.
The lever lock to lower the ramp was almost impossible to unlock.
When we finally got it unlocked, we tried to lower the ramp and it immediately felt like we were lowering a ton of bricks.
Once the ramp was completely down, I tried to use the lever and lift the ramp back to the original position.
I pulled with everything inside of me and then I used my full body weight but the ramp would not move.
I finally got down on my knees in front of the ramp and grabbed it from underneath, using my legs to slowly raise the ramp.
I dusted off the dirt and took a more careful look at the mechanism they designed to move the ramp.
Let me say that this mechanism defied all rules of physics.
Tanja and I immediately decided that we needed to remove the swing and take it to our fabrication shop.
We designed and planned to construct a ramp that could be lowered and raised by anyone.
Our partners, Vasyl and Vitaliy, stopped working on their very profitable big jobs for the military and turned their attention to our equally important wheelchair swing for children.
The project was completed and now the swing is ready for action.
