THE HEALING POWER OF MOTHER NATURE
Dear Family and Friends, our largest project thus far in Ukraine is now completed and we would like to share with you what has been accomplished. We were able to do this with your many words of encouragement.
-
The Lviv Regional Mental Hospital has become the Primary center for Ukraine.
-
This 500-bed hospital now has over 1,500 patients !
-
The Government can only support the salaries. All food is by donation.
-
We have provided large quantities of food, meds, as well as 5 washing machines, 5 refrigerators and 5 microwave ovens.
-
The Children’s section is a locked ward with 25+ children. Many children enter suicidal or manic.
-
They stay from 2-3 weeks to get stable before the next group of children replaces them.
-
There was no outdoor area safe enough for these children, so they were restricted to indoor rehab during their stay. There was no opportunity for Mother Nature to provide her healing powers of Vitamin D and therapeutic play in the great outdoors.
-
We designed and created a 10,000 square foot (1,000 m2) secured area for these children.
-
Total excavated land
-
Stone walking paths
-
Basketball half court
-
Equipped Outdoor dining area
-
“Relax” structure, 9 ft high, consisting of 4 inter-connected swinging 7-foot-long hammocks
-
350 square feet by 15 feet high, fully equipped gazebo for dining, play and rest
-
Group play area with artificial grass for badminton and other team sports
-
Large Swing area containing a 9-foot-high swing structure placed on artificial grass
-
Sand box
-
Large swinging, covered bench that can accommodate up to 6 children.
-
A large play area with rubber tiled surface which contains a trapeze structure and a large play structure with 6 foot and 9-foot-high slides and 2 small platformed houses
-
A 9-foot-high secured wall around the entire 10,000-foot square area.
On opening day, the children rushed out and into their new “Park”.
The day was filled with the sounds of children laughing and medical staff eyes filled with tears of joy.
Thank you so very much for your words of encouragement that kept us going during the dark days of rain and cold.
We could not have done this without you.
